Capes have been used in some shape or fashion since the beginning of time. Man figured out early on that wearing fabric encircled around his body would keep rain and cold out. Much like any trend, capes have changed in style over the years. (Just see the sketches above and see more here.)

There are so many different styles of capes right now but I just picked three. I've also styled them to hopefully give you a different idea of how to wear them.

I would typically pick a heel to go with skinny pants but a studded boot gives this outfit a little more edge. Swap them out with heels for a glam look.
